Should your AI calendar live on top of Google?
A product-direction essay on calendar ownership, integrations, and the tradeoffs between an overlay and a separate calendar.
·Updated ·mmddyy
An assistant that works with an existing calendar and a separate calendar application make different demands on a team. The first can fit into an established workflow. The second has to give people a reason to create and maintain their plans somewhere else.
mmddyy currently takes the second approach: it stores personal and team calendars of its own. Google, Outlook, and Apple sync are planned, not available. That limitation matters when deciding whether it fits your team today.
Start with the calendar you already rely on
Before considering another tool, list where your meetings, invitations, and recurring events currently live. Check which workflows depend on your employer’s calendar system. A separate app does not remove those dependencies.
If you need events to flow automatically between systems, verify that the specific integration exists and supports the direction, fields, and permissions you need. A logo on a product page is not enough.
What a separate calendar needs to earn
A calendar you maintain directly should make its basic behavior clear:
- Who can read, change, or share each calendar?
- How do event timezones and repeating series work?
- Which views are available on desktop and mobile?
- What becomes visible if a calendar is published?
- What happens when access is removed?
In mmddyy, viewers read event details, editors manage events, and owners manage access. Personal calendars can be shared individually. Team workspace owners can manage their workspace’s calendars. The documentation explains the boundaries.
Our product direction
We plan to explore provider connections and AI scheduling on top of these calendars. Those ideas are described in the roadmap, without release dates. They do not make today’s app an automatic replacement for a connected scheduling tool.
Today’s workflow is to create calendars, add events, invite people, and manage access. Choose mmddyy if that workflow is useful to you on its own. Explore the current product before moving shared plans into it.
